Swiftwater Wildflower Walk

You've seen the flowers in vases. Come see them in their natural environment!  Join two wildflower show collectors and learn to identify the most common flowers, shrubs, and trees along the North Umpqua River. The leaders, Nancy Tague and Dianne Muscarello, have collected for the show along the North Umpqua since 2003.

The walk will begin at the parking lot for Swiftwater trailhead, a 5 minute drive upriver from the Glide Community Center. Maps to the location will be available at the front desk.  There is parking at the trailhead, across the bridge.  The trail gently meanders through old growth forest.  We will walk together about 1/2 mile. At that point, you may continue walking another half mile to the edge of the 2015 Cable Crossing Fire, where the trail is closed, or return to the parking lot.  The trail starts out very easy (handicapped accessible) and becomes a little more strenuous after 1/4 mile.

Wear comfortable walking shoes that you don't mind getting dirty if the trail is wet. Come dressed for the weather. Plan on about an hour for the guided walk, or 2 hours should you choose to continue farther.
