2023 Glide
Wildflower Show
|
What an unusual
year this was weather-wise. It was rain or snow for practically the
entire spring. Wildflower collectors worried about what would be
blooming in time for the show. But we were pleasantly surprised. The plant count for this year was higher than last year. |
The flowers started arriving. What an array! |
We were ready with lots of vases. |
One - two - three - LIFT! |
The fern table under construction |
Then we opened the doors. |
Everyone's favorite -- giant sessile trillium |
Red and pink flowering currants |
As always, Dr. Ken Carloni (in green vest) educated visitors in his always entertaining style. |
And no Glide Wildflower Show would be complete without the famous pies! |
And they kept coming! |
A regular exhibit at the show is the Umpqua Valley Beekeepers Association. Lots of visitors want to learn about beekeeping. Bees are essential pollinators for the wildflowers! |
This bee was so covered in honey it could barely move. Ivory, the beekeeper, explained that bees sting only as a last resort. There is always something for us to learn at the show. |
Many visitors enjoy learning how to tell one plant from another, with the help of a few references. |
Books were a big draw at the Book Sale table. Many titles sold out early. |
Ferns are always fascinating. |
The Elkton Community Education Center plant sale was there as usual. |
Time to just sit and talk with friends while eating a slice of pie. |
Close up views of the plants, |
Show dates for 2024: April 27 - 28 We hope to see you there! |
